Paxton Ingram Declares Power in the Name of Jesus on NBC’s The Voice

Meet Paxton Ingram: a 20-year-old contestant on The Voice who sings at his local church in Miami. After weeks of performing popular radio songs on The Voice, Paxton decided to take a stand for his Christian faith and sang “Break Every Chain,” a Gospel song with powerful, emotional lyrics. Even judge Blake Shelton felt the presence of God after watching Paxton’s powerful performance.

“There is power in the name of Jesus,” Paxton Ingram sang over and OVER at the beginning of the performance.

In less than 48 hours since his Gospel performance, Paxton’s rendition of “Break Every Chain” has become the highest charted song from The Voice. The Gospel song is ranked at #23 on iTunes, while the rest of the 11 performances from that night on The Voice have ranks ranging from #28 to #125. The video of Paxton’s performance was uploaded to The Voice’s official YouTube channel and has been viewed over 1.7 millions times.

“I don’t know that I’ve ever recognized true greatness so quickly,” Blake told Paxton, who happens to be a member of his team.

Perhaps Blake felt especially touched by the song due to his own personal experience of taking a stand for his Christian faith. The 39-year-old superstar shocked fans when he released a Christian song called “Savior’s Shadow” just a few weeks ago. It’s a song about redemption, and the lyrics reveal the beauty of trusting in God’s plan.

“In all the years I’ve been doing this I’ve never experienced this kind of reaction from a song. So proud.” Blake said about “Savior’s Shadow,” his new Christian song written by himself.

Blake was beyond proud to see Paxton praising Jesus on stage as outspoken Christians are extremely rare in the entertainment industry, and now these two have a special bond as brothers in Christ.

“Break Every Chain” illustrates a cry out to the Lord to us free from our sins and transgressions. Although the lyrics are emotionally heavy, Paxton didn’t let that interfere with the song’s message. Throughout his performance, it’s easy to tell that Paxton placed his whole heart into it and glorified God with his gift of singing. With each word Paxton sang, his rendition became not only more and more mesmerizing – but also more and more filled with the presence of God.
